Gone are the days when a metal band was placed around every tooth and people looked like "Ugly Betty." Because of the amazing advancements in Orthodontic technology and bracket systems, our patients tell us that it is now "cool" to have orthodontic treatment.
Orthodontic appliances can be made of metal or ceramics. They may be removable, or they may be brackets (braces) bonded to the teeth. The brackets we use are called "self-ligating brackets" that dont need color ties, offering gentle and more hygienic treatment with fewer office visits. (But you can add colors for fun without interfering with the self ligation process.) Wires are also less noticeable than they used to be, and by placing a constant, gentle force in a carefully controlled direction, brackets slowly move teeth to their corrected position with less discomfort to patients.
TREATMENT LENGTH
Treatment length typically ranges from one to two years, depending upon the patient's age, growth of the mouth and face, the severity of the problem, and the complexity of your case as a whole. Patients will respond differently to orthodontic treatment, so the time it takes to complete your treatment may differ from the original estimate. Patient cooperation with any prescribed appliances or elastics is an important factor in achieving the most efficient treatment. We make every effort to have your treatment time be as short as possible while still achieving that beautiful smile that you deserve.
