Why does Dr. McSweeney feel so strongly about these brackets?
Over the years, there have not been a lot of new innovations in bracket technology. However, that has all changed. This new Damon 3 bracket system is unbelievable.
Remember the old brackets with the elastic (or steel) ties? They are still being used in many offices to this day. The old, conventional brackets commonly required the removal of healthy teeth to make room for crowded teeth (which often changed people's profiles drastically.) The old, conventional brackets used elastic ties, which caused friction and pressure, making treatment slower and less comfortable.

The new Damon 3 System combines 3 components which, when used together, deliver amazing and consistent high- quality results, in fewer appointments, and in greater comfort. The Damon bracket utilizes (sliding-door) technology known as "self-ligation" that allows a light wire to slide back and forth within the bracket. By eliminating the elastic ties, the teeth are allowed to move more freely to their desired locations with lighter forces.
No elastic or steel ties are used with Damon® brackets. This technology creates less friction and results in greater comfort for the patient.
